happy birthday! we started out the morning with a few presents. sophie was just so excited to give her gifts that we let him open them before breakfast. i had given her $5 and taken her to target to look through the $1.00 section. i explained that she could choose up to five things. she looked through everything very carefully and picked five little gifts - a package of chocolate coins, some cars markers, a wooden construction vehicle, a little shopping basket filled with pretend vegetables for their kitchen, and a photo frame cube. the frame was the sweetest gift - she wanted to fill it with pictures of her and ben together. she looked through pictures on the computer with me and chose the six she wanted to use. we printed them up and i helped her put them in the frame. it was such a thoughtful, meaningful gift - and ben loved it. she spent all week long making birthday cards for him; i think i counted 17 when she finally gave them all to him this morning. then adam and i gave him our gift - a big geotrax set that he has been asking about for months. he was pretty excited and the kiddos spent all morning playing with it. we had an early lunch so that ben could get a nap in before his party at 2:00. he was so excited that i'm not honestly sure that he ever fell asleep - i heard him chattering away to himself a few times, but he did settle in and rest for a little over an hour. while he "napped," the rest of us did a little decorating and got the house picked up. we had a nice group come to celebrate with us: great grammy, aunt cathy, grandpa, gigi, nana, renee, corinne, noah, jessica, atilla, rigel, and brianna. (unfortunately tara has the flu, so she and grammy couldn't make it - but we're going to visit with them next weekend for a little make-up party.) all of the little kids had fun playing together and ben was enjoying all of his new toys so much that i almost couldn't get him to take a break for his cake! after the party guests headed home, we picked up a bit and let ben explore his new toys a little longer - then adam headed to merrill's with the kids to pick up pizza for dinner. that was ben's birthday meal request. he doesn't even eat much pizza, but he loves to go to merrill's and pick it up, so that is what he wanted. it was a nice choice, for me at least, because it required no work and no cleanup! after dinner and some extra visiting with brianna, who stayed for dinner with us, the kids were both more than ready for bed. it was a long, fun day. tomorrow we'll just relax and home and let ben play some more. he was spoiled by so many great gifts and a family that loves him so much - he's a very lucky boy, and we're all lucky to have him, too!
