purple dinosaur ride

earlier today we met up with one of my best friends, katy, and her husband, dave, who are in town from connecticut. we opted out of a previously-discussed beach trip because the weather was on the chilly side, and instead decided to take the kiddos for a picnic and to play some mini golf. neither sophie nor ben had ever played, so it was pretty funny to watch. sophie had more of a hockey technique, while ben preferred to just use his hands and bowl with the golf ball. and there were a few moments of full contact mini golf which were pretty entertaining, too...

but by far the best part of the afternoon was playing on the (somewhat dilapidated and overgrown) playground nearby. sophie and ben particularly loved these purple ride-on dinosaur toys, which they insisted on sharing with katy and dave. they concocted this whole elaborate story about riding the dinosaurs to lowe's because they needed to buy a purple vaccuum cleaner. who knows where these kids come up with this stuff, but it had us all laughing. as someone said to me recently, a sign of a really good friend is one who will humor your children and let them climb all over them... and let me just say that katy and dave are fantastic friends!
