great beach day this afternoon, the kiddos and i took an impromptu trip the ocean with our neighbor and her two little girls. she knew that adam would be out a good part of the day fishing with my dad, so she called up to see if we wanted to join them in a trip to kennebunk. it has just been sweltering the past few days, so this was a really nice way to spend a few hours! the kids had a ball riding together on the way there, and they were all really good at the beach. sophie and rachel spent the first hour or so climing on rocks and exploring tidal pools, while ben and renee were more interested with jumping over waves and digging in the sand. we took a long walk along the shoreline (probably close to two miles round trip) and the kids did great. they'd run ahead a bit, stop to pick up shells, jump around in the water for a few minutes, and we were probably out walking for an hour or so. we sat and ate some snacks, then played a bit more, and before we knew it we had to start packing up to head home. ben fell asleep about half way home, but the other kiddos amazingly stayed awake for the entire ride. they had such a good time, as did nicole and i, and we were all grateful for the little trip to end out the weekend!
