big boy bed!

ben is now sleeping in a big boy bed! he started asking about it, and i explained that we could convert his crib into a big boy bed pretty easily if he wanted to. he was really excited about the idea, so i decided to go for it on friday. adam and i had talked about the idea a couple of times and said that whenever he expressed interest we'd go ahead and make the switch.

so today before his nap, i took off the front rail of his crib and installed the piece that turns it into a toddler bed. he was so excited and wanted to climb on right away. i worried a little if he would keep getting out of bed instead of sleeping, and he did climb out a couple of times and called to me from the top of the stairs. so i took a suggestion from a friend and put one of those spinner doorknob locks on the inside of his door. that way, he can't open it on his own and won't be tempted to get up and wander around when he should be sleeping. he has always slept with his door closed, so this was nothing new for him and he didn't even seem bothered when i explained that i was putting on the lock. i told him he needed to stay in his bed when it was time for sleeping... and, knock on wood, it hasn't been a problem since. in fact, when he wakes up from his nap or in the morning he calls for me like usual and stays in bed until i come in to get him!

he's been doing great and hasn't had any trouble with the transition. in fact, tonight he insisted on wearing undies to bed again. he's been back in diapers for awhile now overnight, but i think a big part of it was that he just didn't want to be bothered to call for us and wait. but i put his little potty right in his room now, so if he needs to pee he can just get up and go on his own. i'm in no hurry for him to stay dry overnight - i know it really depends on the child and they have to be ready - but it would be nice if this does help out in that department, too.

he's awfully proud of himself and really likes having a big boy bed. here he is sharing some snuggles with his sister - you can see how excited he is...
