busy weekend

instead of going away this year for our anniversary like we usually do, adam and i decided to spend a quiet night at home while the kiddos were having a sleepover with adam's parents. since sophie's t-ball and ballet schedule were too busy for us to make any plans for our actual anniversary, we decided to go with memorial day weekend instead. and then, because of a weird change in plans having to do with the timing of our lawn installation, we ended up changing the dates of a sleepover the kids had planned with my grandmother - and so it ended up working out that they were gone for two nights in a row!

we dropped them off with great grammy on friday evening. this was ben's first time staying the night there, and he was so excited about it. when we showed up the next morning to pick them up, ben greeted us at the door and then ran right back in to fetch two muffins that were saved for us, anxious to show us the baking he'd done with great grammy. both kiddos got glowing reports, and they talked on and on about all the fun they'd had while we were in the car on the way to nana's house.

they did great on their saturday sleepover, too... adam's mom said they both took naps that afternoon and ate well at dinner time. when we came to pick them up, they were both tired, but in good spirits and certainly had a lot of fun. then, as if they hadn't had enough sleepovers, we decided to go pick tara up from my mom's house and bring her back to spend the night at our house.

tara plays so well with both sophie and ben - all three kids spent sunday afternoon playing together. this morning, we all headed back to my mom's for a cookout. even then, on day four of out-of-the-ordinary routines and excitement, ben and sophie both did very well. i was nervous that we were maybe pushing their limits, but they stayed happy and pretty well behaved. they both slept on the way home, of course, but even after we got back they didn't have any meltdowns or anything - we even headed over to the neighbor's house to play for a bit. they were more than ready for bed when the time came, but i was very proud of both of them.
