ben is two!

today was great - we spent a really fun day celebrating ben's second birthday. last night we set up ben's train table and his gifts from sophie in the playroom. when he woke up this morning, we all came downstairs and let him open his presents. he opened sophie's bags first - his own goodnight moon book (his favorite book, but he has been borrowing "her" copy) with a special nightlight with a picture of a cow jumping over the moon from the book and a train for his new table. then we took the cover off the car/train table and let him check that out. as soon as the cover came off, he understood what it was and was pretty excited. he tested it out right away with the new train from sophie.

then we had a breakfast of banana pancakes (a favorite of ben's) and even gave him a little candle to blow out. he loved trying to blow out the candle and tried so hard, but sophie gave him a little help to finally get it out. after eating, we told the kids about our surprise for the day - a trip to chuck e. cheese. of course, they loved the idea.

so we got ready and headed out to south portland. sophie and ben both had a blast at chuck e. cheese - adam and i split up and each trailed one kiddo and let them just run wild. after cashing in their tickets for some stickers and a couple of lollipops, it was well past lunch time so we stopped at friendly's. after lunch we ran a couple of quick errands and headed home. surprisingly, both kids stayed awake for the entire ride chattering on about the fun they'd had.

the kids played with ben's new toys for a bit, and then ben vegged out on the floor watching cars while we got dinner ready. we had do-it-yourself bean and cheese burritos - another one of ben's favorites. he loves all of the ingredients, and then there's the obvious bonus mess-factor of being able to assemble it himself, which he really loves. we ended the evening with a small cake i made with the leftover batter from making cupcakes for tomorrow's party. nothing fancy, but he loved it - and once again got to practice blowing out candles.

he was definitely ready for bed tonight!
