self-imposed timeout

the other morning, ben was playing a little rough and was standing and jumping on the couch - a big no-no in our house. adam told him he'd need a timeout if he didn't stop. ben's timeouts (and he's only ever had two or three) consist of us holding him on our lap for one minute and talking about why his behavior was naughty. sophie, however, has more elaborate timeouts where she sits in a kitchen chair turned toward the wall with a timer set for three minutes. sophie doesn't get a lot of timeouts either, but ben has obviously seen it enough to understand. when he heard adam give the warning, he immediately headed out to the kitchen, turned the chair around, and climbed up into the corner. adam and i spent the whole time laughing (and of course i took a picture). we tried to explain that he didn't need a timeout, but i guess ben just wanted to feel like a big kid!
