in honor of great grandpa...

because my grandfather didn't want a funeral, my grandmother decided she wanted to plan a day for our immediate family to gather and spend a fun day together as a sort of memorial. because of tara's hip injury and need for immediate surgery, we wanted to wait until she was up, comfortable with her crutches, and having an easier time getting around - so we postponed until today.

after thinking about way to spend our day together, we settled on taking an afternoon train ride on the conway scenic railroad - something that my grandfather had always enjoyed. we rented a big passenger van so that we could all take the trip to new hampshire together and then had our lunch on the train in the dining car. it was a beautiful day, the ride was very nice, and i know my grandfather would have enjoyed it.

both kids had a fantastic time. the car ride was a little long for them, but they enjoyed the different vehicle and having so many people around them to play with during the trip. they both really loved the train, too, and the little playground where we played for a few minutes before the ride.

here's ben enjoying some playtime with great grammy while we waited for the train at the station, and then checking out the view with mama...
