scary wake-up

this morning i was laying in bed, reveling in the fact that sophie was still sleeping at 7:30, when ben started to cry. he doesn't typically cry when he wakes up, he just calls to us. so i went right in to calm him down and get him up. i turned on the light and said good morning and as soon as i started walking toward him i could see that he had quite a bit of blood on his face. rushing toward him, i saw that it was coming from his mouth, was all over his chin and dripped onto the neckline of his onesie, plus some on his hands and a few drops on his crib sheet. yikes!

i scooped him right up and called for adam, who brought me a cool, wet washcloth and i cleaned up ben's mouth. the bleeding was coming from a cut on his lip, which i can only assume came from him falling over in the crib and biting himself when he fell. it wasn't very deep, but did bleed for a few more minutes. we brought him downstairs and got him a mickey (one of the disney-shaped plastic ice cubes katy brought us back from florida, which both kids love to use on their boo boos) and he chilled in my lap for a few minutes holding it to his mouth. he got over it pretty quickly, though, and was up and playing in no time.

what a way to start the morning.

here's the little guy showing off his war wound early this afternoon...
