it was bound to happen sooner or later...

in the last couple of weeks, ben has figured out how to climb onto the kitchen chairs - even up into his own booster seat. he hasn't done it much, because we don't encourage it and he's really only interested in being there if the rest of us are. we obviously keep a closer eye on that room, making sure he's not climbing up unsupervised (sophie had a pretty nasty fall when she was a little younger than him, so i guess we're a bit more paranoid about the kitchen chairs and table than most people)... but it hasn't been a big issue.

until this morning, when i was standing in the bathroom doorway talking to adam while he showered. i looked down the hall to scope out where ben was - and there he was standing in the middle of the kitchen table. he'd never even tried that before, but i guess it was only a matter of time. typically the table is clear and there's no temptation for him, but there happened to be some books and such up there, so he was trying to get to them. understandable, i guess.

i remember we had a real battle keeping sophie off the table for a little while around this age. the room isn't set up in such a way that we can really do anything about it other than keep a more watchful eye for daredevil toddlers - so hopefully this will be a short-lived phase for ben. he hasn't even made a hint at another attempt, so maybe if we're diligent about keeping the table temptation-free he won't be as interested in it.
