fireworks

the "old home days" celebration in our town was this weekend, and the big fireworks display was last night. this was ben's first time seeing fireworks and he loved them! i spent probably half of the time just watching his face. he stared so intently and every so often would let out the cutest little, "wowww..."

we got to the school grounds a few hours early and walked around the little midway area they had set up. we found a place to set up our blanket on the lawn and let the kids run around for a bit. ben spent probably ten minutes just runnings laps around and around the blanket before he discovered that he could actually run off. chasing after him kept us busy, but overall he was really well-behaved. he absolutely loved watching a booth where older kids could ride little atvs around a simple course. he kept asking adam over and over again to go see the "bikes."

once it started getting darker, sophie and i went off in search of a couple of those glowing necklaces for her and ben. ben got the idea right away and put it on as soon as sophie handed him one. they each had fun playing with those until the fireworks started. he did great the whole time and was even happy on the walk back to the car. we weren't home until after 10:30, though, and i expect he'll sleep in pretty late this morning!
