finished!

the playhouse is finally done! we finished it up on friday. tara spent most of last week with us, so on thursday afternoon she helped me by playing with sophie while ben napped and i was able to paint the door, stain the porch and install all the hardware on the door. (we have kind of an elaborate set of hooks and such, but it works well. we have a barrel bolt inside to latch the two door pieces together, so that they can open as one big door if you want, and then another on the top outside so that we can close the whole thing up at night. then we also have an eye hook that attaches the top corner of the top door to the back of one of the porch columms, so that we can secure the top part of the door open when we're outside playing.) on friday morning we went out and cut the rug to size, set up a little table with chairs, hung the special paintings the kids had made for the inside, and brought out some chalk for the chalkboard - and it was ready to go!

(please excuse the yard - we're having serious issues with our lawn and are having professionals come in and take care of it for us - i promise their will be actual green grass around the playhouse by next spring!)

here's how it sits in the yard - it's pretty much in the middle against the long side of the fence (excuse the tarp, we had yet to clean up the scrap wood pile)...

the kids are absolutely loving it! we had a little picnic in there the first day it was done, and they've pretty good chunks of time playing in there each day since. adam and i are so glad we decided to take on this project! it ended up taking a little longer to finish than we'd originally though (as all our projects do), but i think we actually did quite well considering we had two toddler impeding, uh, i mean "helping," each step of the way. and for the most part, it was a lot of fun to do. although i am glad its done now and we can just enjoy our time outdoors playing!
