more progress...

the playhouse is really coming along. adam was on vacation this week, and we got two good days in on monday and tuesday, but after that the weather didn't exactly cooperate with us. oh well. but we got back out again today and got a nice bit of work done. now all of the sheathing on the walls is up and the plywood is up on the roof. its starting to really look like a house now. next weekend, assuming the weather is good, we'll work on shingling the roof and putting up the trim board. then we make and hang the door (which will be a tiny bit more time consuming because we're planning a split door, where they'll be able to open just the top part if they want) and put up the railing on the porch... then it's just painting and we're done. probably two more weekends left if we can get some serious time in each day we work out there.

we also used some linoleum remnants we had from when our house was being built and used those to cover the plywood inside the playhouse. it should make it much easier to sweep and clean up any spills. doing it now will make the painting process a bit harder on the inside, but not much, and i really wanted to have the floor covered up as soon as possible because the kids love to run around in there and usually take their shoes off in the yard. if we can avoid splinters, then i'd rather take the extra minute to paint a little more neatly when the times comes. it's not perfect, but it works. we only fastened it down with heavy duty staples (the kind you nail in) and not with any kind of adhesive - that way if we come up with something better next year, we can always change it. i also plan on putting some kind of indoor/outdoor area rug in the middle anyway, so a large part of it will be covered anyway.

sophie and ben are both getting excited to see the house taking shape. i can't wait until its finished and they can play in it!
