18-month appointment ben had his check up this afternoon. he did very well and was nice and cooperative with the nurse and dr. brooks. we went had him weighed and measured first - he's now 23 pounds and 31.5 inches, which puts him in the 10th percentile for weight and 25th percentile for height. still a peanut, but growing nicely right along his curve. dr. brooks gave him a quick examination and asked some basic developmental questions. she wanted to be sure he was using between 15-20 words, and ben is using about 35 now. adam and i had been worried a little because it didn't seem like he was talking much, but when we sat down and made a list the other day it was actually more than we'd realized. she explained that the 18 month appointment is really just a chance to get the child into the office and check these developmental markers (no shots or anything like that) because this is the age they often start picking up problems with autism and other issues. she said that ben is doing great and is right on track, which is always nice to hear, although we already knew. he won't go back now for another six months, shortly after he turns two, which is the longest he's been so far between appointments. in some ways we really still consider him the baby in the family - its strange to think about just how big he's getting!
