he likes the potty ben has been showing a pretty big interest in the potty lately. last week he had a bit of a diaper rash, so i was letting him run naked. we've talked to him about the potty already and i let him sit on it sometimes before bathtime... so i got it out while he was naked just to show him the idea again. i didn't think he'd use it at all, but maybe play with it a bit and get more comfortable with it. but sure enough, after a couple of minutes he came to show me that he'd peed on the floor. directly in front of the potty. then i noticed that there was pee *on* the potty, too. then he sat on it to show me, and i could see what happened - he had actually tried to pee on the potty, but he's too short to get himself all the way onto the seat - so he'd overshot a bit onto the floor. but what a big boy for even trying! of course, he then peed three or four more times around on the floor. but each time he did always tell me and wanted to help clean it, so that's something at least. and yesterday immediately after he pooped in his diaper he showed adam that he wanted to get into the bathroom closet where the potty is. he was asking to use it! i mean, it was a little late at that point, but i think he's starting to make the connections. we let him sit on it for a minute anyway, since he had asked. this time i let him sit on the big potty with the little soft cover we have. i have no delusions that he's ready for potty training, but i figure we should encourage any interest he shows. sophie went through a phase around this age where she was interested in the potty, and i think all of the exposure she got before she was actually ready to train helped her out when the time came and is part of the reason it went so quickly and smoothly for her. now, i'm on a mission to find a new potty for ben. the one we have is a hand-me-down from tara and it worked fine for sophie. but ben is just too small to get on and off all the way by himself... and i'd like something that we can just leave out and let him use on his own. i got a recommendation from a friend that the baby bjorn little potty is the one she keeps in her car and is nice and small and would probably work great for ben. so i'm going to see if i can find one while we're out today - otherwise i'll probably just order it for him. we're nowhere near even thinking about potty training yet, but I figure you can't introduce it too soon, right?
