who needs a sandbox?

we spent yesterday afternoon outside playing in the yard - the first time this year for the four of us. the weather was beautiful, but unfortunately most of the ground is still covered with snow. sophie and i spent some time shoveling on thursday, trying to move snow out of the fenced-in area (the only part i really care about being able to use right now) and we cleared some more yesterday. it made a big difference actually, and it will certainly help that area of the yard dry up more quickly.

the kids weren't bothered at all by the fact that we can't get any of their regular outdoor toys out yet. we just gave them a couple of shovels and a pail and they played in the snow all afternoon. i can't believe this is what we're doing in the middle of april - but i guess the warmer, drier weather will get here eventually.
