playground trip

slowly but surely the snow is melting around here. our yard is still under a couple of feet, but there are areas in surrounding towns where it is mostly melted. a friend emailed me over the weekend to let me know that she'd been by a playground that was all free of snow and invited us to meet up there to get the kids outside and running around. ben had so much fun! he was on the move the entire time - there wasn't much he could do, in terms of actual playground equipment, but he did a little bit of climbing on the toddler area and really just loved running around in the open space. he also enjoyed watching all of the other kids. as this was the first really nice day we've had this spring, the playground was crawling with toddler and preschool-aged kiddos!

we also spent about a half hour visiting with the next door neighbors in their yard before dinner this evening. they have a paved driveway, so it is nice and dry for the kids to play on - and they actually have a small patch of cleared grass area in their backyard where the kids could play. again, ben just loved being down and roaming free - he's going to be so much fun this year. he wasn't quite walking in the fall and was still at the age where we had to watch constantly that he wasn't putting rocks or grass in his mouth. now he just wants to play like the bigger kids!

it's frustrating that there's still so much snow around, but i know it won't last forever. and even though it will be awhile before we can get out and play in our own yard, but at least we can get out somewhere!
