fun st. patty's day since st. patrick's day fell on a monday this year, we started our celebration a day early with a big family boiled dinner at my mom's house sunday afternoon. we had a really nice time visiting, ate some yummy food, and had some shamrock cookies that sophie helped me make for dessert. both kiddos were sufficiently pooped by the time we got home. then yesterday i made a big deal about it all day - i like to make the holidays special since you don't get an excuse like that just any day. we started our day with a green omelet for breakfast, then got dressed in green and headed out to do our grocery shopping for the week. at hannaford i let sophie pick out a green carnation, which she thought was really cool, and we brought it home and put it in a vase for the middle of the table. sophie helped me set the dinner table with green napkins and we had homemade green macaroni and cheese (courtesy of some pureed spinach in the sauce) and then we had green vanilla pudding for dessert. both kiddos really had a lot of fun. ben was a little young to realize how silly some of it was, but he watched us and thought we were funny, so he got in on it that way. and now we're just a few days away from easter!
