he built a bear

ben has been showing interest in lala, sophie's build-a-bear that she made when she was a bit older than ben. lala has been her one constant stuffed animal and it sleeps with her in bed at night. ben likes to play with the bear when he sees it, and lately there have been a few times that i've taken him into sophie's bed to nurse in the early morning hours when i'm afraid he might wake her... and he's grabbed onto lala and wanted to bring it back to his crib with him.

so we decided it would be fun to take a trip to the mall yesterday and let ben make his own bear. or as sophie calls it, "his own lala bear." he did a really great job! we picked a bear that is the same as lala, just a lighter brown color. actually, we let ben choose between a couple different bear options, and that is the one he decided on. he picked it up and immediately cuddled it next to his cheek. very sweet. he held it until we got to the stuffing station and then handed it over to the employee who does that part. he chose a heart for the bear all by himself and placed it in the bear before it was sewn up. once it was all finished, we went over to the little "bath station" and let ben give his bear a scrub while sophie freshened up lala, who of course came along for the trip. he snuggled his new bear during the car ride and has been cuddling with it each night in his crib. it's so cute!

he hasn't given it a name yet. sophie was a bit older than ben when she made her bear, and it was during a time when she was using "lala" as a term for every word she didn't know or couldn't pronounce - but the name stuck. it will be interesting to see what name ben ends up calling using.
