an evening with my boys

sophie had a sleepover at my mom's house last night, so adam and i got some special time with just ben. when we first dropped sophie off, ben actually stayed there, too, while adam and i went out to dinner alone together for the first time in quite awhile. when we were finished our dinner, we picked ben back up, said goodnight to sophie, and headed home. we really didn't get a lot of time with ben last night, because it was pretty much time to get ready for bed when we got home, but the two of us had a nice quiet morning together today before we headed back to windham to get sophie. i got up and took my shower before ben woke up, then i got him dressed and we had breakfast together. we spent a little time playing and then got ready to leave.

ben seemed to miss sophie and kept looking around for her, but i think he really enjoyed having some one-on-one time. hopefully we can find time to get more time like this with him - it's something that i feel he's really missing out on as a second child. sophie still gets a lot of one-on-one time with me before ben gets up in the morning and when he naps in the afternoon, but ben really doesn't get any unless sophie is gone. adam and i try to do it a bit when we're both home, by each playing with one of the kiddos, but generally we all end up playing together. i think the sibling relationship they have and the interaction they share together is well worth the trade-off, but i think it's important to spend that kind of individual time, too.
