milk i forgot to mention that we introduced ben to whole milk a couple of weeks ago. it is by no means a regular part of his diet, but we introduced it just like any other new food so that he is familiar with it and give it to him very occasionally in a sippy cup at meal time - maybe once or twice a week. i don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with cow's milk, although some studies say differently, but i do believe that a growing little human should be drinking human milk, and not milk meant to nourish a calf. obviously, little boys and little calves have different needs, and the milk is composed very differently to meet those individual needs. for ben, particularly with his weight struggles, i feel its very important to keep breast milk as a major part of his diet for as long as he wants it. (its funny how i haven't had any of the "when will you stop nursing?" questions this time around... i remember hearing it a lot around the time that sophie turned one. knowing that sophie nursed until she was nearly 20 months, extended breastfeeding is what is expected from us now, which is nice.) i will say that having whole milk as an option now is nice for the few times we have left ben with the grandparents for a little while. he's spent a few afternoons and one evening away from us recently, and each time i didn't need to worry about pumping milk for him ahead of time. he had a little period of adjustment getting used to the new milk, often getting a mouthful and then spitting it back out, but he seems to be doing better now. it helps that he adores drinking out of a sippy cup like a big boy, and always did really well when we gave him water that way.
