vacation, part two

after our trips to chuck e. cheese's and the fair on monday and tuesday, we spent a couple of days close to home - did a bit of shopping, some cleaning and organizing in the basement, and just some playing. the weather was rainy and we didn't feel bad about relaxing in the house a bit. ben is becoming so much fun to play with right now - it's great to just spend an hour with all of us on the floor in the playroom and watch the kids play and interact.

on friday, sophie had a sleepover planned at my mom's house, and we got to my mom's just before tara got home - so we were all outside waiting for her when she got off the bus. the bus driver (the same one i had when i was little!) offered to take the kids for a ride around the neighborhood, so we all climbed on and went for a spin in the school bus. sophie loves school buses, so i knew she would be excited - but i actually think ben enjoyed the ride even more. he stood up on my lap the whole time, holding onto the seat in front of us... and he just grinned and laughed the whole time. after we said our goodbyes to sophie, we headed home to enjoy some italian take-out and a quiet evening. of course we miss sophie when she's away, but it's really great to have some time to focus on ben and give him our full attention.

today we got up and all went out to breakfast, then went back to the orchard to pick some more apples. we also got to take a hayride around the orchard. ben got another haircut this afternoon, and then we went out and played in the yard for a bit. ben absolutely loves the soccer ball we have out there - whether he's crawling around and chasing it or "kicking" it while we hold him up, he thinks it's hilarious. he's so much fun to watch.

we've tried to balance the week with fun activities and low-key time at home. i think we did a pretty good job and we all had a great time. its going to be a bit of an adjustment having daddy gone during the day again - but i'll bet he gets a pretty good welcome when he comes home tomorrow afternoon!
