teething for sure poor ben has been having a rough time with his teeth. he doesn't show it much during the day, but he's had a couple of rough evenings in a row and i know it's because his mouth is hurting him. he's had periods of teething off and on for a few months, but nothing major... just extra chewing, drooling, maybe a bit of whining here and there. but wednesday night he was fussy at bedtime and then woke again only an hour or so after going to sleep and cried and cried for over an hour. nothing i could do helped - he didn't want to nurse, he didn't want to rock or dance or cuddle. i tried walking with him in a dark room, laying down with him in bed - everything. he was literally screaming - a noise he really doesn't ever make - and writhing around no matter how i tried to hold him. it was absolutely awful. i hated seeing him like that. i tried putting some orajel on his gums and that helped a bit for a minute (although he really let out a yell when i touched his mouth), but i eventually ended up giving him some tylenol, which is something we never do. i brought him downstairs and watched some late night tv while he nursed off and on for about an hour and finally settled into sleep. that was the worst night by far, but he has had a few other tough evenings when i know his mouth has been sore and has made bedtime a bit trickier. he's been having orajel regularly before his last feeding of the evening, plus some natural teething remedy tablets that we use in lieu of tylenol. it's been working pretty well and he hasn't had an episode like that in the middle of the night again - but i hope these teeth break through soon so the poor kid can be more comfortable again!
