first camping trip we went camping this weekend with adam's parents - the same campground by the ocean that we went last year. ben, of course, only tagged along in utero last time, so this was his first official camping trip. we worried about how ben would do at night because of his teething troubles lately, but we just hoped for the best. during the daytime, he did well - he was happy to sit in his stroller or be held. it was hard for him not to be able to get down and crawl around, but he didn't get too cranky about it. we ate much later than usual and he didn't get his regular naptimes, but he was ok about it. nighttime was a different story, though. it was just too hard for him to sleep in a strange place. he didn't wake up and scream like he has been, which was great, but he was awake nearly all night. he just wouldn't fall into a deep enough sleep for me to put him in his pack n play - ever time anyone moved he would wake up again. i eventually did get him into his pack n play and he slept there for about 30 minutes - the only solid sleep i got all night long! - but when he woke back up i just kept in with me for the rest of the night. he nursed off and on all night and wiggled around a lot, but at least he was reasonably happy. he woke up once around midnight - wide awake - and just laughed and laughed for about an hour. it would have been really adorable had it not been so late! adam got up a little before 6 and took ben out for a little walk so that he wouldn't wake sophie and i could get a little sleep. of course, it only lasted about a half hour before sophie woke up, and we had some nice quiet time outside before adam's parents woke up and we started our day. we had a wedding to go to in the afternoon, so we all stopped back at chris and paul's to get ready and then headed to the wedding. it was an outdoor wedding and was super hot and humid, so we ended up not staying much longer than the ceremony. ben was sweaty and tired and needed a nap, so we thought it was best to just head back to the campground and let him get some sleep in the car. we got back, took a little hike to see the ocean, and then we all had dinner. we had already decided not to stay the second night - we all needed some sleep - but we stayed until evening and then headed home to get the kids in bed. it wasn't perfect, but it was a nice trip and i'm glad we went. hopefully next year ben will be able to enjoy it more!
