teaching sophie is such a great big sister. we're so lucky for the way she welcomed ben and how well she does with him. she has her moments of jealousy, of course, but she genuinely loves her brother. she's so excited that he's growing and changing and she's able to interact with him more. she likes to look at books with him and tries to "read" to him. she talks to him and tries to make him laugh when we're riding in the car. if he's crying, she'll go over to comfort him and say, "its ok, ben." best of all, she often tries to include ben in whatever she's doing. when she goes on the swings at the playground, she asks if ben can swing, too. if she's taking a bath, she'll invite ben with her. sometimes we have to say no and explain that ben's too little for all the things she can do, but for the most part we encourage it. we really want to help nurture their bond, and i think having a sibling is going to be a great benefit for both of them. and i just love watching them together. today while we were playing outside, sophie climbed into her little ride-in car and asked if ben could drive with her. she moved way over and made room for ben, so i let her hold him there with her for a few minutes. immediately ben grabbed for the steering wheel and sophie helped him turn it a bit and explained it to him. she looked up at me, so proud, and said, "look mama! ben driving!" i love seeing that kind of interaction. sophie is going to be a great teacher for ben, and he's lucky to have her.
