new food we started sophie on avocado as well, unlike a more traditional first food like bananas or sweet potato, because after doing a lot of research, we found that avocado is becoming an increasingly popular first food for babies and is a great nutritional choice for them. here's some info i found... "Avocado is a wonderful first food for baby! The avocado's smooth creamy consistency makes it one of the first fresh fruits a baby can enjoy. Sodium free, avocados contain such valuable nutrients as vitamins E, C and many B vitamins (riboflavin, niacin, B6, folate and pantothenic acid), magnesium, potassium, copper and zinc. Ounce for ounce, avocados contain more potassium than 45 other fruits, juices or vegetables, including bananas, peaches, carrots and green beans and they are one of the only fruits or vegetables that contain the monounsaturated fats which are essential for your baby's development. Avocados contain folate which is necessary for optimal growth of all the vital organs." ben did really well with it. even though it was very smoothly mashed, it was still a thicker consistency than his cereal. he spit up a little bit that he was having a hard time swallowing at first, but he got the hang of it pretty quickly. its fun to watch his face as he explores the new food. i'm looking forward to giving him more today to see how he does. i plan on making all of our baby food again, and i'm really looking forward to it. we'll give him a few days between each new food to watch for allergies, but thursday or friday i'll make a batch of sweet potatoes and that will be his next new addition.
