dinner out

adam and i had plans saturday evening for a dinner in the old port with adam's boss and a co-worker, and since ben won't take a bottle (and honestly i don't know if i'm ready to leave him for that long yet anyway!), ben came with us. the plan was for a nice seafood restaurant in the old port - not a particularly kid-friendly environment - so i was a little worried about how ben would do. (sophie stayed at home with brianna and her boyfriend.) adam and i talked before we got there and decided that if ben got too fussy, i would just leave with him. we certainly didn't want to be "those people with the screaming baby" who ruined everyone else's dinner.

however, there was no need to even worry about it because ben did fantastic. it was a long time - about two hours - but he just chilled. he sat in his sling for a long while at the beginning and then when he started getting antsy, i moved him onto my lap. the trick was keeping things interesting for him, so we changed his view a couple of times, either by putting him back in the sling to see over my shoulder or having him sit with adam on the other side of the table for a few minutes, and that seemed to do the trick. having a busy restaurant full of people to look at helped - and the couple at the table behind us were quite taken with him and that helped entertain him, too. he is such a good boy. as usual, we were very proud of him.
