4 month checkup ben had his 4 month pediatrician appointment this morning. he was weighed and measured - he's now 16 pounds, 5 ounces and 26.5 inches which puts him in the 75th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height. an intern and dr. brooks checked him all out and he's perfect. no concerns. i had asked about a rough patch a few inches below his belly button - it didn't look like a diaper rash and we've switched brands of diapers so it didn't seem to be an allergy. she said it was just dry skin and to use some extra lotion on that area. i picked up some aveeno baby lotion to use, because i remember it worked really well for dry skin when sophie was an infant and its free of dyes and perfume which is probably best for such a sensitive area. dr. brooks also reminded us that its fine to start ben out slowly on solids now - they recommend between 4 and 6 months old. from my own reading and research, i've found that more and more pediatricians and dieticians recommend waiting until 6 months to reduce food allergies, so we're going to wait a bit longer. we only waited until nearly 5 months with sophie because she started showing strong signs that she was ready, but ben hasn't really given us those signals yet. he is starting to pay a bit more attention while we eat, but he doesn't seem quite ready yet - and adam and i are happy to wait until he is. i'm kind of excited to start making baby food again, although it will be awhile - even once he starts solids, he'll just be getting cereal for a few weeks and then just very gradually introducing new foods. i need to read up on the suggested order again - i was totally informed with sophie, but i definitely feel like i need to brush up on it! other than that, the appointment was very quick. ben got 4 shots, but was very brave. he made a couple of funny faces, but didn't actually let out a cry until the last one. even then, as soon as i picked him up he was fine. he's such a big boy - we were very proud of him.
