new nighttime digs ben spent his first night in his crib last night. until now, he's been sleeping in a bassinette in our room. he's outgrowing the bassinette quickly, and even though he's never tried to roll over in there (he still sleeps swaddled, so that makes it harder) it makes me nervous that he might. so... the transition begins to get him sleeping in his crib in his own room. his routine is that he goes into his bassinette at bedtime, then wakes to eat sometime between 12 and 1, then goes back into his bassinette until early morning when he'll wake again and come to bed with me. he stuck to the same routine last night, so that's good. we had tried a few times to put him down in there a couple of weeks ago, but he seemed to wake up more easily (or maybe just not put himself back to sleep)... so we went and bought an ocean wonders aquarium that attaches to the side of his crib. it lets of a tiny bit of light and also plays music or soothing ocean sounds. he really liked it. he can also activate it himself my pushing one of the buttons (he's already playing with it, i'm sure it won't be long before he knows which one makes it work) - so maybe that will help him self-soothe when he wakes up in the middle of the night. if he needs to eat, that's fine - but i think sometimes he just wakes up and is lonely and doesn't know how to fall back to sleep on his own. hopefully tonight will go smoothly, too!
