pbhtbpbbb ben's started blowing raspberries this week. it is the cutest thing. he laughs when we do it back to him, and then he'll do it more. he ends up just covered in his own drool bubbles, but even that is cute if you ask me. a couple of people have mentioned that he was young to be blowing raspberries already. i looked it up, and didn't find an age where babies typically start making them - but the reference i found was to a 5 month old baby. anyhow, i did learn something new... apparently raspberries (or "bilabial trill," the technical linguisitc term) is one of our first steps on the road of language-development. way before we can start making words, we need to figure out how to move mouth, tongue and lips in coordination, and blowing raspberries is an important first step to making that all work. neat, huh?
