six week checkup we took ben to his six week doctor appointment yesterday afternoon. beside the time we had to wait for the doctor, which was a little tough with sophie wanting to play with everything in the exam room, it was a pretty quick appointment. he was measured and weighed and is now 12 pounds 14 ounces (95th percentile) and 22 inches long (50th percentile)... up nearly three pounds and 3/4 of an inch since his one week appointment. he certainly is a big boy. dr. brooks came in and checked him all over. she commented on how strong he is and said that everything looks perfect. he's a little rashy looking, which she said is just newborn acne and right on schedule - it typically shows up around one month old and lasts for about a month. sophie had it a little on her face, but ben has it more on his body than she did so i wasn't sure it was the same thing. i'm glad to hear that it's totally normal. we also asked about his very loud breathing (he's a serious snorer, just like his daddy) and she said that was fine and also normal. he did have to get one shot (the second hepatitis shot), which i was anxious about. i hated the idea of watching him in pain, but he did really great. he let out a tiny whimper, but was settled just as soon as i picked him up. in fact, he fussed a lot more just getting into the car seat to go home than he did getting the shot. we go back at the end of next month for another visit. (i was actually able to schedule his appointment and sophie's two-year checkup at the same time, so it will be nice getting it all done in one trip instead of having to go twice.) he'll have more shots then, poor guy, but hopefully he'll handle them just as well as this time.
