first christmas benjamin had a really nice first christmas. he got some great gifts - a few small toys and some nice clothes - even though he really didn't need anything. it was a busy few days for us, but he was so easy and just went with the flow. we opened a few presents on saturday, just to spread them out a little and not overwhelm sophie. we did a few more the next day, christmas eve, and then after lunch we headed over to my mom's. we had dinner there with my mom, jeff, brianna, tara, grammy, grandpa, and cathy. ben didn't mind being passed around a bit; the only times he fussed was when he was hungry and needed to nurse. he slept soundly in the sling during dinner. he showed his great grammy some great smiles while we were opening some presents. both kiddos slept on the way home, but ben woke up and stayed up with adam and i for a little bit after we got home. he was pooped, though, and slept most of the evening and only got up once in the night. the day was busy - christmas morning at our house, back to my mom's for breakfast and gifts, and lunchtime with adam's folks - and ben was just as low-maintenance as the night before. he just hung out with us while we ate, opened gifts, or whatever we were doing. he obviously didn't understand christmas at all this year, but it was so special just to have him there as a part of the family. as much as i missed my mom and sisters first thing on christmas morning (this is the first year i haven't spent the night with them), it was so nice to have that time alone with our little family of four. we are starting our own traditions. sitting on the living room floor on christmas morning with both of our children was just perfect. next year will be so much fun when ben can really get in on the action, too!
