first pediatrician appointment

yesterday afternoon, benjamin had his one-week appointment with dr. brooks. first we got him undressed and the nurse weighed and measured him. he weighed in right at 9 pounds and 15 ounces, back up to his birth weight, which is great. the doctor said they give babies two weeks to regain (the visiting nurse we saw said one week - so i guess it differs a bit from person to person) and he's doing great to have regained it already. he measured 21 and 1/4 inches long. she explained that he hasn't shrunk or anything, but that babies born vaginally tend to measure longer than they actually at first because of the coning of their head and that most initial birth measurements are a little exaggerated. i had never thought of that, but it makes sense. anyway, that puts him in the 90th percentile for weight and the 75th for height. his head circumfrence measured 37 centimeters, which is the 50th percentile.

dr. brooks checked ben all over and said he looks great. she commented several times on how strong and healthy he is, which is always nice to hear. he goes back in a month for his next appointment.
