37 week appointment i met with the new doctor, dr. lucas, at the practice today. she isn't my favorite, but she was fine. it's nice to know that i've met them all now and i'm really okay with any of them being on call when ben decides to make his appearance. i'd choose dr. bitler if i had the option, but i have no problem if it ends up being any of the other three. the appointment was pretty brief. we listened to the heartbeat (150 bpm) and she did a quick measure of my belly. i'm still measuring a bit ahead and although she seemed to feel that the baby wasn't actually all that big (just more of his position affecting the measurement), she did say that she wanted to order an ultrasound to check his growth. she didn't need to and said she wouldn't be worried if we couldn't get it scheduled before i delivered, but she thought it would be nice to check it out if we could. i scheduled it with the receptionist before i left, and we'll be having the ultrasound at the hospital next friday morning right before my weekly appointment. she also did an internal exam and i am now 2 centimeters dilated. no effacement yet, though, which means that my cervix hasn't shortened any and is also still pretty high. once the thinning starts, the dilation typically happens more quickly. i certainly don't want to evict little ben before he's ready, but now that i'm full term i want to start nudging him along a bit. maybe going on a few walks or spending some time squatting to try to help him move a little lower. i'm anxious for him to be here, and i'm just getting more and more uncomfortable as each day passes. he will come when he's ready, but i feel okay making it a little easier for him.
