24 week appointment i had my 24 week appointment yesterday afternoon. i was supposed to meet the new doctor that just joined the practice, but she had been called to a delivery at the hospital, so instead they fit me in to see dr. bitler. i'd met her once before and really liked her, so i was happy to see her again, even though it meant i'll have to wait awhile longer to meet the new doctor. the actual appointment was another quick one. just weight and blood pressure with the nurse, then a quick measure of my belly and a listen to the heartbeat (136 bpm) with the doctor. i did ask about the few braxton-hicks contractions i've been having. i didn't have any (that i could feel) with sophie, and it surprised me how similar it felt to the early contractions i'd had during labor. not painful at all - but certainly uncomfortable. dr. bitler said its totally normal to have them, and that most women don't notice them during their first pregnancy, but that with each subsequent pregnancy they are more frequent and intense. she said everything sounds normal, but to watch the contractions; if i have several in a short period, then drink some water and lie down... if i have more than 5 or 6 in an hour, then definitely call. she said its good to know what to watch for, but that its perfectly normal and expected to have some sporadic contractions like this and she didn't forsee any issues. because we scheduled this appointment before adam's work schedule changed, he wasn't able to come with us. sophie did really well waiting with me and did a great job sitting by herself while i talked with the doctor. she laughed while we listened for the heartbeat, and "talked" a bit with the doctor. i'll go back in 4 weeks for another appointment and the 28-week glucose test. after that, we start going every 2 weeks. i can't believe we're almost to that point already!
