definitely a boy! after our last ultrasound, neither adam nor i were totally comfortable with the way the tech had checked for the gender and given us a "i think it is" kind of guess. she seemed unwilling to really take the time and look, and we never got to see a clear picture that made us feel good about going ahead and painting the nursery, buying clothes, etc... so we decided that we'd get an elective ultrasound done just to verify the gender. i went online and checked with the place where we'd done sophie's 3d ultrasound in portland, and they had an inexpensive package that was just called a "gender check" - just a simple 2d ultrasound like we'd had at the hospital, and they guarantee to check until they can tell you for sure what you're having, even if it means you have to come back another day. we called on a whim this morning to see what they had available for appointments, and they were able to see us this afternoon. and - as a bonus - when we got there the receptionist told us they were doing a summer special for the same price as the "gender check" and it included a 3d ultrasound. we didn't get a video, but we got some cool pictures. obviously, the baby is still really skeletal right now, so we wouldn't have paid for the 3d this early (and had decided not to get it this time anyhow - it was cool with sophie, but honestly more money than we were willing to spend again) - but since it was the same price, we said why not. it was very cool to see the baby again. we could all tell right away that ben is, in fact, a little boy. he was not shy at all this time about showing off his goods. the tech still took the time to look around from a few different angles and make sure he could tell us with 100% certainty. he spent some time looking at the baby in 2d and got us some pictures that way, then turned to the 3d and we got to watch ben that way for awhile. it was so neat to watch him wiggling and stretching out. he was snuggled up pretty good in there, with his legs bent up toward his head most of the time. here are some of the pictures we got. i'll post the actual picture and then a copy that i labeled, so you can tell exactly what you're looking at. without the benefit of the tech explaining everything, i know it can be hard to decipher exactly what the picture is showing.
