first baby purchase! it's kind of amazing that we haven't bought anything baby-related yet. not even an outfit. i have held back because there's really not much that we need - and with clothes there's no need to shop until we find out the sex, because if it's another girl there's going to be very little that we need. sure we'll pick up a few special new things, but we'll really be set on wardrobe. as far as big things, we're going to need a new crib mattress, because sophie will need one for her toddler bed. really, more of the new stuff is going to be for sophie's big girl room. she's going to need a new bedding set and maybe a bookcase. the nursery is pretty much all set, because we bought a gender-neutral set for sophie and plan on keeping the nursery as is for the new baby. if its a boy, we'll want to re-paint the top half of the walls, which are now pink, and pick up some new crib sheets - but that's really it. the only furniture we needed is a bureau of some sort, because sophie will be taking hers to her new room. we toyed with the idea of using the changing table again as we had used for sophie, but once we got her bureau we realized how nice it was to have drawers for storage rather than the open-under changing table. so we happened to see one while we were out and about shopping that is a bureau/changing table combination. it has a place for the changing pad on the top, but the underneath has three drawers and a door with a shelf behind it. it seemed perfect for what we were looking for - so we went ahead and picked it up. our first thing for the baby's room! now i just have to put it together. i'm thinking of going ahead and starting work on sophie's new room and moving her in pretty soon. i'd like to have just one project at a time... so this way i can get sophie's room all done before we need to start working on the nursery. because even if we have a girl and there's not much we need to do, there are still going to be little things i want changed. plus, this will give sophie even more time to get used to her new space before the baby comes. i really don't want her to feel like she's being kicked out by the baby or anything like that. i want the move to her new room to be special for her and i don't want her to feel replaced. anyway - it was just one small step in getting ready for this new baby, but it was fun to buy something for him or her!
